Abstract : Manufacturing systems rely heavily on continuous machine operation to sustain productivity, making reliability and maintenance critical concerns. In practice, spare machines are often imperfect, with higher failure rates compared to the main machine, and the efficiency of repair facilities strongly influences system performance. The interplay between machine failures, spares, and repairs determines the operational capacity of the entire system. Modeling such systems using stochastic processes provides insights into their steady-state behavior and reliability characteristics.
