Abstract : The present study investigates the effects of electoral changes, including mandatory voting and proportional representation, on electoral results including voter participation, party system segmentation, and political stability. Electoral changes are frequently suggested as remedies to tackle problems such as decreasing voter turnout, unrepresentative election outcomes, and absence of governmental responsiveness. The present study undertakes an extensive literature analysis to examine the impact of these reforms on voter behavior, the competitiveness of elections, and the general quality of democracy. The analysis incorporates comparative studies across different democracies to ascertain the circumstances in which these reforms provide the highest level of effectiveness.
