Abstract : As per NABH, discharge refers to the process in which a patient is released from the hospital with accompanying medical reports confirming stability. The discharge procedure concludes when the patient leaves the clinical unit after receiving formal approval from the consultant. The patient's discharge process is intricate and initiates with the doctor's recommendation, which is grounded in the patient's clinical report. Subsequent steps include the preparation of the discharge summary, bill generation, approval from the pharmacy, and settlement of the bill. It is a multistage process which requires effective communications from different departments – inpatients and administrative department. Clinical, financial, legal, and administrative records are all kept as a part of the process. The patient suffering from chronic disease gets admitted to the critical care unit or inpatient department. So, the time taken by the hospital for discharge is an important indicator for patient satisfaction. NABH has established a benchmark of 180 minutes as the standard for completing the discharge process. Therefore, ensuring an acceptable discharge time gives the organization a competitive advantage. The transition of patients from the hospital to home can be a more precarious process, prompting the initiation of a study agenda for care transitions [1].
