Abstract : India has been grappling with significant maternal and newborn mortality challenges for the past two decades. While there has been notable progress in reducing neonatal and infant mortality rates, the overall improvement remains sub-optimal. To tackle these public health issues, the Government of India (GOI) has implemented various innovative strategies and interventions as part of the National Health Mission Scheme (NHM). Research indicates that a significant proportion of maternal and newborn deaths occur in the course of and after childbirth [1]. The nation is currently grappling with significant public health challenges, including an infant mortality rate [2] (48 per 1000 live births), under-five mortality rate (58 per 1000 live births), and maternal mortality rate (301 per 100,000 live births). These challenges align with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (Goals 4 and 5), which stress the enhancement of maternal and child health. While India has made notable progress in reducing the maternal mortality rate by 66%, resulting in an estimated decline from 600 to 200 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births and achieving an average annual reduction of 5.2% during the period 1990–2010, there is still work to be done [3].
