Abstract : Gut microbes play a vital role in maintaining overall health, especially in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Prebiotics and probiotics have gained significant attention among the various components influencing gut health. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine places great emphasis on the relationship between diet and health. In ayurveda takra (buttermilk) is included under pathyakalpana (dietetic preparations) and can be use as both medicine and dietary regime. Takra (buttermilk) is considered to be probiotic rich food, containing beneficial bacteria like lactobacillus which can contribute to a healthy gut microbiota and support gut health. According to ayurveda laghu (light), dipana (appetizing), grahi (absorbing) properties of takra make it an excellent choice to support digestive health. Ardrak (zingiber officinale), commonly known as ginger is highly valued for its medicinal properties, especially concerning digestive system. According to ayurveda properties like dipana (appetizing), pachana (helps in digestion), amapachana (purify toxins) of ginger support digestion and immune system. Antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of ardrak can indirectly support the action of lactobacillus and contribute to a healthier gut environment. When combined, takra and ginger are thought to enhance others beneficial effect on the gut. It is important to consume takra and ginger according to the prakriti (dosha predominance) and specific digestive needs. This article explores the symbiotic influence of takra and ginger on nourishing the gut microbiome and promoting digestion.
