Abstract : Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs as a result of absolute or relative deficiency of insulin that results in metabolic and vascular abnormalities. There are several forms of diabetes, the most prevalent of which are type 1 and type 2. Type 2 diabetes is commonly referred to be a "lifestyle" disease since it is more common in persons who do not exercise enough, eat an unhealthy diet, and are overweight. During the second half of pregnancy, gestational diabetes develops. Diabetes can also be caused by pancreatic disease or injury, Cushing's syndrome, acromegaly, and a few uncommon hereditary types. It is a chronic (lifelong) illness.
